There are two basic techniques that a surgeon can use to complete a mid face lift. Each patient and doctor will discuss the various options and possible risks or complications associated with the methods and then make a decision based on relevant factors. Most plastic surgeons that specialize in the midface lift procedure are moving towards the newer method of surgery that uses two small cameras and an endoscopic procedure that allows the doctor to see into the layers of muscles and tissues. These two small endoscopic tubes are inserted under the skin and tissue layers through small incisions made in the temple area. The incisions are just into the hair line, providing cover for the very small scars even when healing. The alternative and more traditional method is for the surgeon to make a small incision in the lash area of the lower eyelid and access the cheek tissue from this vantage. With the newer technique the surgeon has more flexibility as to how to move and position the tissue to create a more natural and firm appearance. With the traditional method the surgeon is more restricted to pulling the supporting tissue up rather than in multiple directions.
