Facial implant surgery is designed to improve the contours and overall appearance of a person's face. By placing implants strategically, a surgeon is able to compliment a person's facial features and bring them more in line with each other which will create a more uniformed and balanced look. Facial implants should not be perceived as a perfection technique but rather an enhancement process. It should be noted that a facial implant may shift or move slightly out of alignment from its intended spot. This will obviously defeat the purpose of the implant. In such cases, a second surgical procedure may be needed in order to correct this. If an infection should develop around a facial implant, and it does not clear up with antibiotics, the implant may need to be removed and replaced at a later time when the face has had time to heal from the infection.
